If you’re in the Fort Hood, Texas area tomorrow; July 31st; you might want to stop by Comanche Circle in post housing to catch our multi-family yard sale. We expect there will be about 10 families participating.

In addition to selling the normal yard sale stuff, like clothes, electronics, toys, furniture, etc., we’ll also be setting up at least one table of candles. We’ve got a couple dozen jar candles, and boxes and boxes of votives, in our “candle closet”.

We’re going to mark the prices at normal retail. However, it being a yard sale and all, I certainly expect that we’ll run a few specials … such as buy two 16oz jars, and save $10!

… in addition, almost everybody who buys anything from us, candle related or not will be very likey to get a free (or at least highly discounted) votive .. plus a business card.

So if you’re here on Fort Hoood, come on over and say high.

… and if you’re someone who is reading this tomorrow because you went to the address on our business card … welcome … how can I help you today?

Angel Wings is the candle of the month for March. This cherry vanilla flavored candle has always been one of my personal favorite scents. I’ve burned (and sold) quit a few of this scent over the years. It’s really popular around Christmas time; but I suppose that could have a have as much to do with the name, as with the way it smells.

Shop for Angel Wings Scented Candles

For about the past 5 or 6 years, our candle of the month program has sent all members a brand new scent every month. The worked out nicely, as the company grew. Members got fresh new flavors, and the company had a steady supply of guaranteed sales each time they introduced a new scent. Recently however, the company has made a change …

From now on, instead of a brand new flavor, the candle of the month will always be one of the top selling scents from that month, in the previous years. So in other words, the reason that Angel Wings is the Featured Candle for March 2010, is because it was among the best sellers in March 2009.

This is a win-win for everybody. Our candle of the month members will always know that they are getting a proven popular scent to burn every month. And, our distributors (who are also COTM members) will know that they are getting candles that the marketplace really wants … in the case that they decide to sell their candles rather than burn them.

I can’t wait to get home and light up one of these Angel Wings.

And looking forward to next month, the Featured Scent will be Lilac … sounds about right for Spring.

Did you know that every week our company gives away a free 16oz Jar candle, and one of our famous Soy Soaps to one lucky person?

People have been entering this drawing; and winning; for 6 or 7 years now. It’s always been a good deal for everybody involved.

I am going to let you in on a little secret though …

Company wide, we get literally thousands of weekly entries into this drawing. Everybody has the same chance of winning. However, let’s be honest; 1 in 5 or 6 thousand is not really great odds for any individual person.

So, I’ll tell you what I’m going to do …

Let’s make YOUR odds a little bit better!

As for this writing, I’ll still be here in Iraq for about another month. But, once I get home, I’ve got a couple of shelves full of Votive Candles that are just waiting for a nice new home.

For everybody who enters our company drawing (Click Here to go to the Entry Form) between now and April 30th 2010, I will send you a Free Votive … whether you win the company contest or not. (I will send it in April when I get home)

In addition, I will also randomly pick one entry to whom I will send that same 16oz Jar candle, and famous Soy Soap that the company is giving away.

That should improve Your chances of winning just a little bit.

I appreciate you … and good luck!

Lighting up a scented candle is a great way to relax, I’m sure most people would agree.

But what do you do at those times when a flame just isn’t possible, but you’d still like to enjoy your favorite candle “flavor”?

The problem could be as simple as not having a match or lighter handy. Or, as absolutely insurmountable as living in a school or military dorm room where open flames just plain aren’t allowed.

Fortunately, there is a solution …

Over the past couple of years, flameless scented melts have become quite popular.

There are even whole corporations built entirely around the concept of non-burning candles; although most candle companies simply have a product line devoted to different flavors of wax melts. I have seen them sold individually, but most of the time they come in bags of a dozen or two small oval wickless “candles”.

Unlike traditional candles that have a somewhat predictable “burn rate”, in my experience the amount of time that a scent will last can vary depending on the type of wax, the specific scent, and even the method that you use to melt it. But generally speaking, melting will almost always produce a longer lasting aroma than burning a similar sized candle in the normal way.

How do you melt a candle?

There are probably a wide variety of ways to use scented melts, but here are two that I’m most familiar with:

Purchase a simmer pot that is made specifically for the little oval shaped scented wax melts. Many companies sell these right there on their website, alongside the candles and melts. They work exactly as advertised.

Or for those who prefer a more “gery rigged” method, you can simply pick-up a cheap little potpuri pot the next time you’re in Walmart, and use it to melt a votive candle. Most votive candles have a metal or plastic disk on the bottom of the candle to keep the wick in place. What I do, is simply pull this disk off, and the wick along with it. Then take a knife and cut the votive in half or thirds. Place it in the potpuri pot, and voila! you’ve just made a “poor man’s” melt.

Which ever method you use, melting a candle is an easy way to fill your house with your favorite scent (even all night long) … without taking the risk of leaving an open flame unattended.

So what do you think … is it time to go flameless?

Let me tell you something Todd:

“Chicks Dig Candles”

That’s a quote from a conversation that I had with my friend Mike almost 10 years ago, when he was helping his wife with her new candle business, and for some reason felt the need to justify himself to me. I will admit, I was kind of wondering how a guy could credibly market something like candles. At the time, I was still hawking a much more “manly” product … waterless car wash. But Mike’s explanation of why, especially a single guy, might want have some candles around, sort of made sense.

Fast forward a couple of years later …

I was a divorced guy in my 30s, and I now sold candles. I did a lot of retailing at the time, so I kept a decent sized inventory … usually at least one of those big bookshelves, filled with a variety of different scents.

Ok, so where am I going with this?

Well, I remember this one evening. I had met a girl, and took her out to dinner. After dinner we decided to stop back a my apartment and watch a DVD. The night appeared to be going well. As we were sitting on my couch watching the movie, I noticed that she would occasionally look around the corner into my dining room, and then glance at me, before returning her attention to the movie.

I finally had to ask … “is there something wrong?”

So she looks back around the corner, turns to me and says, in a somewhat serious tone of voice: “You sure do have a lot of Candles … are you Gay or something?”

LOL, ok, so I guess Mike’s advice might not have worked out so well in that particular instance.

Now-a-days, I’m remarried, have another 1 year old daughter, and a pregnant wife … so I suppose you could say it’s a pretty safe bet that I’m a practicing heterosexual.

… but I am still a Guy with a huge shelf full of Candles

We know you love candles ... that's a given. But what I'd really like to know is just exactly how much of a candle freak are you? I'm sure we'll come up with more questions down the road to help define this term, but for now, I think "burn rate" is probably a pretty good measure of scented candle "freakiness" ;-) [...]

This is the very first Candle Monkey poll (in case you’re reading this post years from now).

If you found your way here to this site, it’s probably a given that you have an interest in Scented Candles … which would put you in good company. From my experience, I think it would be pretty darn difficult to find someone who doesn’t burn candles; or at the very least knows people who do.

What I’m really curious about is, to what degree can the people who read Candle Monkey be classified as “candle freaks” … or to use a gentler term “candle lovers”?

I think this poll question helps get to the heart of the matter, although I suppose that we will also do some follow-up polls along the lines of how many candles are in your house? how many different brands? do you purchase? how long have you been burning candles? etc.,

But we’ll save that for a later day.

For now, I’d simply like to know …

Note: There is a poll embedded within this post, please visit the site to participate in this post's poll.

Fall is almost here; candle season is coming!

Every year since we got started in this business, it never fails … during the months of September, October, November and December we sell more scented candles then probably the other 8 months of the year combined. Needless to say, Autumn tends to be one of our favorite seasons here in the Morris household.

I’m not sure exactly why it is that people like to more burn candles in the fall and winter than they do in the spring and summer. Maybe it’s got something to do with the idea of having an open flame in your house seems more appropriate when it’s cold outside? I don’t know, for us pretty much any time of year is a good time to light up a Hot Apple pie candle and enjoy the way it makes the whole house smell delicious. I do know one thing (and I don’t want to give away a secret if any of you are reading this), but I have a pretty good hunch that our neighbors will be getting something aromatic from us for Christmas this year (candles make great gifts)

If you’re already on our mailing list, expect to see some additional Specials and Promotions over the coming months … the company always comes out with some fun new products for the holidays.

… and if there’s anything specific that you’d like to see, don’t hesitate to drop us a line. We’ll be sure to pass it on.

A couple of weeks ago, we got a great lesson in networking from a lady that Ana met while our kids were playing in the ball pit at McDonalds. They had talked for almost an hour, and the lady was nice enough to have given Ana some advice on schools and good neighborhoods to live. When it was time to leave, she simply said “let’s keep in touch, here’s my card”.

It turns out that she’s a Mary Kay consultant … it said so on her card.

When we got in the car, I pointed out the Ana (who is new, and therefore a bit “cautious”, when it come to promoting our business) that we had just witness some very good “soft” networking. Her new friend didn’t try to sell her anything … heck, they didn’t even talk about makeup. But, now if Ana does ever have the desire to purchase some Mary Kay makeup, you’d better believe that business card in her wallet is the first place she’ll look.

Because of this lesson, we decided that it would be a good idea to get Ana some new business cards. Ana is much more personable than I am. Everywhere we go, she’s having conversations and making new friends. Now, when it’s time to go, instead of wondering whether we’ll ever run into these people again, she’s got a couple of candle business cards in her purse, and simply hands one over and says “let’s keep in touch”.

The cards look pretty cool. They have an attractive design, and all of her contact information. You can see what they look like here: Candle Business Cards

We bought a box with 500 cards in it. I’m really looking forward to having the need to re-order very soon

I Love my part-time business !

Not only do we have some of the best smelling candles and soaps that you’ll find anywhere. But, we also provide a FuN and Simple way for people to Earn Extra Income.

Our company recently posted a chart showing the average annual income (by level) of all active distributors. And the really cool part is, this is only showing the leveraged income (commissions). It doesn’t include the additional money that can be made through retail sales and fund raising.

All I can say is Thank You Bobby and Charlie !!

I’m so glad I found this company back in 2002. Who’d a thunk that scented candles could be my key to a happy retirement from the military in just a few short years?

Keep havin FuN!

My Candle of the Month usually shows up around the 12th. In addition the new 16oz jar, and dozen votive triple scented candles, I also get a bar of our unique Soy based soap.

We currently have 6 very popular scents … and even better, when you find one you like, you can also get the matching scented candle, to burn while you bathe.

I’ve personally been using this soap for a couple of years now. I even brought 10 bars with me when I was deployed to Iraq this past year. It replaced both soap, and shampoo; and in a pinch, I’ve even used it to shave. My favorite scent is the Mystic Melon.

I wonder what yours will be?
